40 mm Guide Pin
40 mm Guide Pin

The 40 mm Guide Pin is a removable positioning and workholding component designed for the Broinwood CNC Spoilboard System.
It installs directly into the same machined spoilboard pockets used by the Split Expansion Anchors and can be positioned anywhere within the grid.
The 40 mm height provides a solid reference surface for positioning workpieces and allows the pin to be used as a stop, fence, or support point in different workholding setups.
The outside surface of the Guide Pin is intentionally textured. The texture provides additional grip inside the MDF pocket and against the edge of the workpiece.
How to Use
- Insert the 40 mm Guide Pin into any available pocket in the spoilboard grid.
- Position additional Guide Pins as needed to create stops, fences, or reference points for the workpiece.
- Position the workpiece against the Guide Pins and secure it using the appropriate workholding method.
- When the setup changes, simply remove the Guide Pin and move it to another pocket.
The Guide Pin should fit snugly without excessive play, while still being possible to insert and remove by hand.
Easy Removal
Each 40 mm Guide Pin has a side through-hole designed to make removal easier.
If the Guide Pin is seated tightly in the MDF pocket, insert an Allen wrench, screwdriver, or another suitable tool through the side hole and use it to pull the Guide Pin upward.
This eliminates the need to grip the outside of the Guide Pin with pliers or other tools that could damage its textured surface.
Additional Workholding Option
The 40 mm Guide Pin can also accept a Threaded Insert.
Once the Threaded Insert is installed, a 1/4"-20 bolt can be threaded into the Guide Pin and used as an adjustable pushing or holding point against the workpiece.
This allows the same Guide Pin to be used not only for positioning, but also to apply additional side pressure when required by the setup.

Important
Because of its intentionally textured outer surface, the 40 mm Guide Pin does not have one constant outside diameter.
Depending on where the measurement is taken across the textured profile, the outside diameter can range from approximately 25.01 mm to 25.35 mm.
For this reason, the correct pocket size should be determined by actual fit rather than by measuring the outside diameter of the Guide Pin.
Before machining the complete spoilboard grid, I recommend starting with a 25.0 mm test pocket and checking the fit with the Guide Pin.
If the pocket is too tight, increase the diameter gradually in 0.1 mm increments and test the fit again. In most setups, the final pocket diameter will be around 25.3 mm, but a slightly larger pocket is perfectly acceptable if needed.
The Guide Pin should fit snugly without excessive play, but it should still be possible to insert and remove it by hand without excessive force.
The correct fit is more important than the exact pocket diameter.
